About Us

Our History

Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries is the founding Goodwill, a community-based nonprofit organization headquartered in Boston. With additional job training centers in Beverly and Springfield, we provide hands-on job training, career services, and support programs that empower individuals to find meaningful employment and succeed in today’s workforce.

Founded in 1895 by Rev. Edgar J. Helms, a Boston University theology student, Goodwill began with a powerful mission: to give people a chance—not charity. By collecting donated goods and using the revenue to create job opportunities, he established a sustainable social enterprise model that continues to guide our work.

Today, Goodwill has grown into a network of more than 150 affiliates across the United States and Canada, all committed to helping people overcome barriers to employment. At Morgan Memorial Goodwill, we serve people facing challenges such as lack of work experience, limited education, or barriers to access. Our mission is simple: to help individuals gain the skills, confidence, and support they need to find jobs, achieve independence, and build new lives.
